Of the meanings used fort his Chapter:

1)      The main meaning, and the most common is: الطَّلَبُ ‘The asking/seeking’

This asking could be real or a metaphorically asking in the sense of seeking

Asking for:   المَغفِرَة , which is the forgiveness

Asking for: الإِذنُ , which is the permission

Asking for: العَونُ , which is the Aid

Asking for: العَوذُ , which is the refuge

Asking for: الغَوثُ   , which is the relief from hardship

Asking for: العَجَلَةُ , which is the hastening

Asking for: الخُرُوجُ , which is the exiting/ coming out

Asking for: الوُقُوفُ , which is the stopping

Asking for: الكِتَابَةُ , which is the writing

Asking for: السَّماحُ , which is the pardon

Asking for: التَّفصِيل , which is the detail

Asking for: الفَتْوَى , which is the ruling

Asking for: النَّصِيحَةُ , which is the advice

Asking for: الخَبَرُ , which is the news

Asking for: الخِيَرَةُ , which is the choice

If you want to give the meaning of asking we bring it on the scale of اِستَفعَلَ

We are going to take all the original letters from the written مَصَادِر (verbal nouns) and place it on this chapter  (so after bring faa-ul kalimah, ‘aynul kalimah, and laamul kalimah we add the extra letters which are the alif, the seen, and the taa)

  • It is taken from the verb غَفَرَ – يَغفِرُ  , which is of Chapter two

We place the extra letters, which are the alif, the seen, and the taa in the beginning

We bring faa-ul kalimah, which is the ghayn and give it a sukoon

We bring ‘aynul kalimah, which is the faa and give it fathah

We bring laamul kalimah, which is the raa and give it a fathah

He asked for forgiveness

  • It is taken from the verb أَذِنَ – يَأذَنُ  , which is of Chapter four

We place the extra letters, which are the alif, the seen, and the taa in the beginning

We bring faa-ul kalimah, which is the hamzah and give it a sukoon

We bring ‘aynul kalimah, which is the dhaal and give it fathah

We bring laamul kalimah, which is the noon and give it a fathah

He asked for permission

We place the extra letters, which are the alif, the seen, and the taa in the beginning

We bring faa-ul kalimah, which is the ‘ayn and give it a sukoon

We bring ‘aynul kalimah, which is the waaw and give it fathah

We bring laamul kalimah, which is the noon and give it a fathah

Here we have a principle to apply, which says: When ‘aynul kalimah is a waaw or a yaa having a harakah and it is preceded by a vacant letter, we give the harakah of the waaw or yaa to that saakin- And we turn that ‘ayn to the letter suiting that harakah.  This principle is made due to an exceptions.

  • They also did that in أَفعَلَ like in أَقَامَ which was originally أقوَمَ , to make it follow one pattern . The Qiyaas is that we should leave it and change the waaw into an alif, because here the letter before the waaw doesn’t have a fathah.
  • Every waaw and yaa which came as a 3ayn you are going to do the same

He asked to be aid

He asked for refuge

  • It was originally اِستَعْوَذَ , just like اِستَعَانَ

He asked relief from hardship

  • Here there is no actual asking, but it is asking in the sense of seeking

He  extracted/ took out

  • Here it also is not an actual asking, but it is asking in the sense of seeking

He asked to stop

  • This waaw is not the ‘ayn to change it into an Alif
  • You can say: اِستَوقَفَنِي الشُّرطِيُّ  ‘The policeman asked me to stop (stopped me) ’ or اِستَوقَفَ الشُّرطِيُّ زَيدًا  ‘The policeman asked Zayd to stop (stopped Zayd)’

He asked to write

He asked to be pardoned

He asked for detail

He asked for fatwaa (ruling)

  • It was originally اِ ستَفتَيَ  and here the yaa is mutaharrik and the letter before it has a fathah, so we can turn this yaa into an alif اِستَفتَى

He asked for advice

  • Here it was originally اِستَخيَرَ – ‘aynul kalimah is a yaa having a harakah and the letter before it is vacant so we gave this harakah to the vacant letter and turned the yaa into an alif suiting the fathah
Today we will take the three letter verb with three extra letters
And we take from it the first Chapter
  • The extra letters of اِستَفعَلَ are the alif, the seen and the taa
  • الطَّلَبُ is a masdar
